Why early checks matter so much
A child’s speech develops from what they hear. Even mild or temporary loss — commonly fluid after ear infections — during the speech-learning years can show up later as unclear speech or classroom struggles. Caught early, most causes are treatable, and where support is needed, early intervention makes the single biggest difference to outcomes.
What a pediatric session looks like
- Parents stay throughout. You’ll see everything we see.
- Play-based audiometry — responding to sounds becomes a game a toddler wants to play; no headphones forced onto an unwilling child.
- Otoscopy made friendly — a quick, gentle look for fluid or wax.
- Plain-language results the same day, with honest next steps: often reassurance, sometimes a medical referral, sometimes hearing support.

Frequently asked questions
At what age can a child's hearing be tested?
At any age — testing methods are adapted to the child. Play-based audiometry works well for toddlers and preschoolers; older children manage standard testing comfortably.
What are the signs of hearing loss in a child?
Not startling at loud sounds, delayed or unclear speech, turning up the TV, sitting very close to screens, inattention at school, or frequent "what?" responses. Any of these deserves a hearing check — many are fixable.
My child had repeated ear infections — should I worry?
Repeated infections can leave fluid behind the eardrum that muffles hearing for months, right when speech is developing. A quick check after infections is a sensible precaution.
